Volunteer at Club Meetings
”After taking some time to consider whether I might do a good job of it, I signed on. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The good cheer and affection that go around the table as we read and talk are pure sunshine.”

What is the first step to volunteering at a Next Chapter Book Club meeting?
Complete and submit the inquiry form found below. If there is an active club nearby, we will contact you to let you know how to connect with it. If there is not we recommend that you talk to the head librarian of a public library near you and ask if they would consider offering Next Chapter Book Club to their patrons with disabilities. If they are receptive to that idea, please encourage them to contact us.
What can I do as a volunteer of Next Chapter Book Club?
Volunteers are the lifeblood of Next Chapter Book Club. While Program Coordinators launch and manage our network of clubs, our volunteers (we call them Facilitators) devote one hour each week guiding the actual meetings. Facilitators come from all walks and stages of life and include students, family members of individuals with disabilities, and retirees looking for an opportunity to make a difference.
What does a Facilitator do?
Each club meeting has two Facilitators. They guide the members in making book selections and other decisions about the club. They are knowledgeable about our Standards of Practice and have learned strategies for engaging readers of all levels, including those who cannot read at all.
Is training required to become a Facilitator?
Yes. All of our Facilitators receive online training, which includes a club demonstration, so they will be comfortable and effective guiding a book club for individuals with a variety of reading levels and abilities.
